Duties & Responsibilities:
- The Assistant Director provides expertise to implement, develop, and evaluate new student completion initiatives. Reporting to the Program Director of Nontraditional Studies/Associate Dean of University College, the Assistant Director supports the Program Director and contributes to the strategic planning and implementation of set processes and departmental goals
- This position will oversee all Experiential Learning for the Department of Nontraditional Studies which include; Service Learning, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) and completion initiatives for students who are well suited for flexible-degree options. The Assistant Director is responsible for marketing PLA by developing recruitment and outreach materials that educate, inform and advise others about nontraditional learning opportunities and resources. The position will also co-lead a PLA Advisory Board with a focus on reading, interpreting, and evaluating PLA candidate applications and academic credentials
- In addition, this position will be responsible for providing curriculum instruction and advising General and Interdisciplinary Studies majors
- Other duties as assigned
The ideal candidate must exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills; adhere to strict ethical standards; be student-focused in philosophy by demonstrating an ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student population; manage stress and remain flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment; be knowledgeable regarding the practice of advising and instruction; be able to effectively use computer-based advising and academic systems as well as other computer programs, including Word and Excel. Some travel and flexible hours required.
