Director of Emergency Operations and Occupational Safety - A00408

Duties & Responsibilities:

Emergency Management:

    Develops emergency management policies and plans that comply with and follow national, state, and local emergency management directives, regulations, policies, standards, and guidance
    Responsible for authoring, enhancing, updating, maintaining, and appropriately distributing the University Comprehensive Emergency operations Plan along with ensuring the content of such plans is congruent with best practices for emergency actions
    Responsible to develop, implement, schedule, and conduct training programs for senior administrators and department leads in Emergency Management/Emergency Response for the concept of operations described in the Arkansas State University Emergency Operations Plan
    Coordinate with and foster relationships with local and state emergency management organizations such as Craighead County Office of Emergency Management, Jonesboro Fire Department, local EMS providers, local hospitals, etc. for the purpose of better integrating A-State into the community emergency management fabric and ensuring A-State is a priority in a local emergency
    Will lead the Emergency Operatiors Center team determining needed and avaiable resources (e.g., technical expertise, equipment, and capacities, as well as future future sources), to support emergency activities
    Manages activation of Continuity of Operations Plans following a major emergency and disruption of University operations
    Identifies, recommends, and implements programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of disasters, injuries, fatalities, and impact on critical University infastructure and the environment
    Responsible to seek grants and other funding opportunities to enhance the Comprehensive Emergency Management Program and the readiness of Arkansas State University
    Manages the Emergency Operations Center duties during an emergency until the University is back to normal operations
    Provide leadership for the Incident Response and Crisis Action Teams

 

Safety:

    Conducts safety inspections for compliance with established requirements on safety and fire protection
    Maintains regular schedule for checking fire extinguishers and fire suppression systems
    Develops, maintains, and practices Emergency Operations Plan with a written fire protection plan
    Locates fire and safety hazards in residence halls, academic and auxiliary buildings
    Reviews construction plans for new or renovation projects to ensure fire and life safety codes are complied with before construction begins
    Demonstrates the proper use of safety and emergency equipment
    Compiles monthly accident report summaries
    Other duties as assigned

General Days/Hours:

Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Required to respond to campus during emergencies and is on call 24/7 for emergencies

Job Requirements

The formal education equivalent of an earned Bachelor's Degree with a major in Emergency Management, Occupational Safety, or a related field
